At Bohemian BarBelle Club, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to be strong. With physical strength comes mental fortitude and emotional resilience. Our philosophy centers around creating an inclusive community that nurtures and supports this individual growth. We provide tailored guidance, recognizing each person’s unique goals and abilities, and building on each strength as we progress. We believe a thorough understanding of nutritional needs as well as physical movement are the basis for growth and progress. We cultivate within the club a supportive and empowering environment where members connect, inspire, and motivate one another. Education is paramount and we firmly believe in empowering our community with knowledge to make informed choices. We celebrate milestones, foster goal-setting, and encourage continuous growth. ABOUT US

Bohemian BarBelle Club started in 2014 and has transformed and grown from a studio with only kettlebells to the barbell club it is today. It is one of the few strength-based gyms in the area and offers private training, small group strength and conditioning classes, powerlifting training as well as online coaching to clients anywhere in the world. Together with an in-depth approach to training and nutrition, Bohemians have access to all the tools they need to reach their goals, whatever they may be.

The gym is now a well-equipped barbell-focused training facility with a variety of clients ranging from teenage lifeguards and aspiring powerlifters to pensioners who want to build and maintain their strength in their golden years. I also offer online coaching to many overseas clients.

My fitness industry career began in 2007 with an introduction to CrossFit. Since then I have always loved the feeling of being strong and
capable that barbell work gives me and I have chased and studied as much as I can to educate myself more, I began Powerlifting in
2017 and have competed in 10 competitions since then. I trained throughout my third pregnancy and competed at 17 weeks postpartum.

My most notable achievements include:

  • AWPC U60 Masters 1 Best Overall Female Lifter and Best Overall Female Master Lifter
    National Championships 2023
  • First place Masters 1 U60 WPC Nationals 2021

I also hold all the National records for Squat, Bench and Deadlift in Masters 1 U60 for the World Powerlifting
Congress and the AWPC (tested part of the WPC)
Masters 1 and Open categories.

I hold world records in:

AWPC for U60 M1 Squat, Deadlift and Total in 2023
WPC U60 M1 in 2022 with a 153kg deadlift

My passion for Powerlifting has also led to one of my proudest achievements, starting my own Powerlifting Team which I have successfully grown to a team of over 23 lifters from all walks of life who are now participating not only in local competitions but also national ones and even world
championships.

“I first started training with Amy in 2018 just a few days a week but in 2019 I started doing weight training 4 days a week as well as nutrition and it is the best investment I ever made in myself. I have managed to lose around 12kg and 58cms, all without excluding any food groups or starving myself. I have built muscles and strength I did not think was possible when you are in your late forties. And everyday I make more progress. I am the fittest and healthiest I have ever been. Weight training combined with pilates has also sorted out my chronic back issues I had. Amy has helped me to become the best version of myself. I have been training with Amy for almost 13 years now.  Seeing as I am a bit of a “try athlete” wanting to do everything and try everything.  I have found the perfect person and place to assist me with just that.

I have been coached through many different sports, races and competitions.  From running 10km’s to 21lm’s and 35km Ultra Trails in Table Mountain, to doing the Cape Town Cycle Tour now for 6 years while training with Amy.  I have also trained with Amy getting back into shape after 2 pregnancies as well as a few injuries from knee surgery to a good couple of ankle sprains. 

While dong some standard strength training, I have found a new love for powerlifting, did my 1st competition just over 2 years ago and said I will only do 1, now almost 6 competitions later, I am off to compete at Nationals all thanks to the belief and guidance from Amy.

Being over 40 I have realized how important training with weights is compared to just cardio and at Bohemian Barbelle I have found it all. Amy has also guided me on getting my nutrition right, which was nonexistent and her patience and guidance have been paid off that I have now lost almost 5kg and in 2 months and eating more than I ever did before, but the right foods.

Aside from the wide variety of training options and programmes I have found here, I have also formed so many friendships with the most amazing ladies and the guys who also train here.   I have never gone to a class/training session and have not laughed or had a great time. Its been my perfect end to my day, I look forward coming to Bohemian Barbelle to see everyone and follow my training programme after a day at work. I love this place, my coach and crew…not your average gym, Bohemian Barbelle Club is truly a special place with and even more special woman bringing us all together.

I have trained with Amy for around 10 years, most of which have been child-bearing years.

When I started I was probably the most challenging client as I did not like to sweat and would just stop.
Now look at me, a day is not complete with sweat. She has successfully guided me through two of my three pregnancies. After my third pregnancy, I weighed the same when I left the hospital as I did before I fell pregnant. Not that it is all about the scale but it is still a good indicator.

Between the Strength and Pilates classes with Amy, it has helped me become a stronger faster runner which is my true passion. I have loved the edition of the barbell classes as this is something I would never have tried on my own.

Amy has always been encouraging and her never give up attitude pushes everyone in the class. With her expert knowledge she has always adapted all exercises to whichever phase of my life I was currently in.
I love the people I train alongside and am proud to be part of the Bohemian BarBelle Crew.
